On September 5, 2023, in honour of Teachers’ Day, a ceremony was conducted at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi where Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, presented National Awards to teachers from all around the nation.
The President stated that primary education is fundamentally important in everyone’s life while speaking at the event. She continued by saying that many educators refer to the three-H formula for children’s balanced development, in which the first H stands for the heart, the second H for the head, and the third H for the hand.
She stated that the heart is connected to sensitivity, human values, morality, and strength of character. She continued by saying that respect for manual skills and physical work is tied to the head or brain, which is related to mental growth, thinking capacity, and reading. She claimed that only by emphasising such a holistic approach would full development of children be feasible.
The President underlined that more female teachers should be getting Teachers’ Awards in light of the presence of women in the teaching profession. She emphasised that encouraging female teachers and students is crucial for the empowerment of women.
The nation’s future is built by teachers, according to the president. She continued by saying that a good education is seen as every child’s inalienable right, and that teachers play a crucial role in accomplishing these objectives. She continued, “The National Education Policy 2020 also makes clear the significance of teachers as nation-builders.”
The President said that it is the duty of the teachers as well as the parents to recognize the unique abilities of each child and help the child to develop those abilities with sensitivity. She said that every parent wants their child to be given special attention and treated with affection and parents hand over their children to teachers with great trust. She added that it is a great privilege for every teacher to get the opportunity to share love among 40-50 children of a class.
The President said that everyone remembers their teachers. She added that the praise, encouragement or punishment that children get from teachers remains in their memories. She said that if children are punished with the intention of improvement in them, they realize it later. She added that giving love and affection is more important than giving them knowledge.
