Prashant Kishor Launches New Political Party

Today marked the official debut of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj organization as a political party, marking his long-awaited ascent into electoral politics. Kishor was previously an election strategist. In the upcoming assembly election, it is anticipated that the Jan Suraaj Party will run for every seat in Bihar.

Manoj Bharti, a retired Indian Foreign Service official, will lead the party. According to Mr. Kishor, if the party is elected, it will lift the state’s alcohol ban and utilize the proceeds to fund improvements in the field of education.

The people who have worked for the group for the last two years will decide who leads the party, according to Mr. Kishor, who talks about altering the paradigm of voting from caste and electoral sops to a vision for the future.

Mr. Kishor has been traveling the state for over two years now, spreading awareness of what he believes should be the election topic.

He had declared earlier in the year that he was prepared to formally establish his political party. He had asserted that his Jan Suraaj will provide the public with a new option.

“In Bihar, in the last 25 to 30 years, people have been voting for RJD or BJP. That compulsion should end. The alternate should not belong to any dynastic party, but people who wish to form the party,” he had said.

Mr Kishor had started the Jan Suraaj initiative after a brief stint in the ruling Janata Dal United of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Congress’s aborted effort to recruit him to revitalize the party.

When the party extended an invitation for Mr. Kishor to join its “Empowered Action Group” in 2022, he declined, citing the Congress’s lack of “collective will to fix deep-rooted structural problems.”

He had begun the Jan Suraaj with a yatra and thinks its conversion to a political party is only the midway mark on his trip.

Mr Kishor has said he aims to visit every village in Bihar to educate residents on improving their living standards and those of their children, encouraging people not to vote under pressure from misguided leaders and work towards the progress of the state on key parameters including education, agriculture, and employment.

The next stage of his initiative would be presenting a blueprint of solutions for the challenges Bihar is facing, he has said.
