Mobile internet services were shut down in the Rajouri and Poonch districts on Friday as the security forces carried out their massive operation to find the terrorists responsible for the targeted attack on Thursday that killed four Indian Army soldiers and injured at least three others in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir.
The army has stepped up ground combing operations in response to enhanced aerial surveillance of the region, particularly in the Dera ki Gali forest area in the Rajouri sector of Poonch district.
According to an official, sniffing dogs were also used to locate the terrorists who ambushed two army trucks on Thursday at 3:45 p.m. when they were en route to assist with a cordon and search operation at a blind bend close to Dhatyar Morh.
An official said sniffer dogs, too, had been pressed into service to track down the terrorists that ambushed two army vehicles, en route to support a cordon-and-search operation, at a blind curve near Dhatyar Morh on Thursday at 3:45 pm.
Here’s a list of the developments so far:
The terror incident in Poonch has been attributed to the People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF). The terrorists used social media to post images from the scene of the attack that demonstrated the use of highly advanced M4 carbine assault weapons, manufactured in the United States. The M4 carbine is a magazine-fed, gas-operated, lightweight weapon created in the US in the 1980s. In addition to being adopted by more than 80 other nations, it serves as the main infantry weapon in the US Armed Forces.
According to sources who spoke to India Today TV, terrorists targeted the Dhatyar Morh area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district since the Army trucks were slowing down because of a blind curve and uneven road at this point. At Dhatyar Morh, the terrorists set up camp atop a hill between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz, from where they fired bullets at the two Army vehicles, sources said.
On December 16, after taking a leave of absence, Rifleman Gautam Kumar, 28, of Kotdwar, Uttar Pradesh, returned to his duties. This was five days prior to his death in a terrorist strike. The wedding of Gautam Kumar was anticipated by his family and was set for March 11, 2024. Rahul Kumar, Gautam’s older brother, broke down in tears on Friday when recounting how his brother’s unit called the family at midnight on Thursday to inform them that their brother had died. Since then, the family has been in profound grief over the young soldier’s loss.
The leaders of the opposition have denounced the terror incident that occurred in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, and have criticised the federal government’s handling of security-related matters. Sanjay Raut, a fiery MP for the Shiv Sena (UBT) who is well-known for his outspoken criticism of the government, compared the 2019 Pulwama incident, which claimed the lives of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) members, to the ambush in Poonch.
Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, asserted on Friday that the security surroundings in the Valley is superior to that of West Bengal. “Compared to Bengal, Kashmir has a superior security status. “Please come to the state and witness the difference,” Sinha declared at a Kolkata event.
