Kolkata: A police officer was shot during a scuffle between two Trinamool Congress (TMC) groups in Bengal’s North 24 Parganas on Monday night. The officer identified as Prabhat Sarkar has been admitted to a hospital and is being treated for bullet injuries.
A total of 41 TMC workers were arrested following the incident that occurred when the police officer was present in Bashirhat to handle the scuffle between two groups of TMC workers.
Reacting to the incident, BJP’s Dilip Ghosh said the state police is now working to settle disputes between TMC groups, to extract money on behalf of TMC and win elections for the Mamata Banerjee-led party.
“All anti-social elements are in the TMC, so clashes will happen. Police can’t dare to touch these anti-socials. Police have taken responsibility to win elections [for the TMC] but don’t know how many policemen will have to die for this,” he said.
The ruling party is yet to respond to the incident.
