PM Modi’s Economic Advisory Chief Bibek Debroy Passes Away

Bibek Debroy, the chief of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Economic Advisory Council, died on Friday at the age of 69.

Debroy was a Padma Shri recipient who previously served as chancellor of the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in Pune. He was a member of the NITI Aayog until June 5, 2019. He wrote and edited a number of books and articles, as well as serving as a consulting/contributing editor for multiple newspapers.

His education and profession

Debroy attended some prestigious institutes in the country and around the world, including Ramakrishna Mission School in Narendrapur, Presidency College in Kolkata, Delhi School of Economics, and Trinity College, Cambridge.

He also worked at Kolkata’s Presidency College for a brief period from 1979 to 1984. He then worked at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics in Pune till 1987, followed by the Institute of Foreign Trade in Delhi till 1993.
