Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas and release the 15th PM-KISAN scheme at Birsa College in Khunti, Jharkhand on 15th November 2023, recognizing tribal efforts in cultural heritage preservation and promoting national pride and hospitality.
The Prime Minister has released over Rs. 18,000 Cr. in the 15th instalment of the scheme, supporting over 8.0 Cr. farmers in meeting their agricultural and incidental needs.
One of the biggest Direct Benefit Transfer programs in the world is the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN). A flagship programme of the Indian government, it represents the government’s ongoing commitment to taking the lead on legislative initiatives for a productive and inclusive agriculture sector.
Launched on February 24, 2019, this central sector program aims to support the financial needs of all land-holding farmers, with the exception of those who meet specific income-based exclusion criteria. Via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, farmers’ families nationwide receive a monetary benefit of Rs 6,000/-per year, paid into their bank accounts in three equal installments every four months. Over 11 crore farmers nationwide have received benefits totaling more than Rs 2.61 lakh crores as of right now.
The 15th instalment of PM KISAN requires eKYC and Aadhaar seeding with active bank accounts to ensure benefits are released directly to beneficiaries without middlemen. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has developed a mobile app with facial authentication-based eKYC, allowing farmers to complete their own eKYC and assist 100 other farmers in their neighborhood from home. This is the first mobile app to use facial authentication in any benefit transfer scheme of the Government of India. The app is easy to use and available for download on the Google Play store.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has also launched a PM-KISAN AI Chatbot (Kisan e-Mitra), which will provide the farmers with a one-stop solution for their grievances related to the PM-KISAN scheme. Integrated with Bhashini, the chatbot offers support in local languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Odia, Bengali and English through voice and text assistance. These technological solutions aim to address general queries and grievances raised by the beneficiaries promptly and effectively.
The Chatbot is enabling farmers in obtaining answers to all their scheme-related questions, providing them with accurate and timely information.
The 15th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme demonstrates India’s commitment to promoting agriculture, empowering farmers, and ensuring sustainable development. The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare is working on programs to improve agricultural productivity, increase farmer incomes, and ensure food security, aiming to improve agricultural productivity and farmer welfare.
