PM Modi to Attend G20 Summit

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a three-nation journey on November 16 to attend the G20 Summit in Brazil and strengthen bilateral ties with Nigeria and Guyana.

PM Modi will first visit Nigeria from November 16 to 17, at the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The External Affairs Ministry said on Tuesday that this will be the first visit by an Indian prime to Nigeria in 17 years.

In addition to evaluating India and Nigeria’s strategic alliance, Modi will explore new ways to strengthen bilateral ties. He will also address a meeting of the Indian community.

India and Nigeria have been strategic allies since 2007, with increasing economic, energy, and defense cooperation. More than $27 billion has been invested in Nigeria by around 200 Indian enterprises.

During the three-nation visit, Modi’s primary commitment will be attending the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 18–19. India is a member of the G20 troika, which also includes South Africa, which will host the summit the following year, and Brazil, the current G20 chair.

India has been actively participating in current negotiations for the G20 Summit, according to the ministry of external affairs. Modi will present India’s stance on a number of global issues during the summit, building on the conclusions of the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and Voice of the Global South Summits that India hosted during the previous two years.

The ministry stated without providing specifics that Modi is anticipated to meet with a number of leaders during the G20 Summit.
