PM Modi Names Lunar Landing Sites: ‘Shiv Shakti Point’

Shiv Shakti Point will be the name of the location on the Moon where Chandrayaan-3’s lander Vikram landed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today while speaking to ISRO researchers in Bengaluru.
When PM Modi arrived to the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru today to welcome the researchers behind the historic Chandrayaan-3 mission, he made a major statement.

“To give the spot of the lunar landing a name is custom. India has now also chosen to give the spot where the Vikram lander landed a name. According to PM Modi, that location is now designated as “Shiv Shakti Point.”

He said, “The hard work, inspiration, and empowerment of the women scientists are where the ‘Shakti’ in the name ‘Shiv Shakti’ originates from.

In addition, “Tiranga Point” has been given to the location on the Moon where Chandrayaan-2 crashed in 2019.

“India has chosen to give the location of the Vikram lander’s crash landing on Chandrayaan-2 a name as well. Because it didn’t feel right, India opted not to name that point at the time. But now that Chandrayaan-3 has successfully touched down on the Moon, it is appropriate to give the spot where Chandrayaan-2 made its mark a name.

The point, which marks India’s first touch with the Moon’s surface, will be known as “Tiranga Point” because we now have “Har Ghar Tiranga” and the Tiranga is actually there on the Moon.

The PM also said that the 23rd of August will be recognised as National Space Day. This was his third declaration.

According to PM Modi, “It will be a day of celebrating science and technology and will inspire future generations.”
