Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday called the Union Cabinet’s approval of eight high-speed road corridor projects a “transformative boost” to India’s infrastructure landscape.
In a social media post on X, PM Modi called the move a “transformative boost to India’s infrastructure landscape!”. He stated that this decision highlights the central government’s commitment to a “futuristic and connected India.”
“The Cabinet’s approval of 8️⃣ National High-Speed Road Corridor Projects at an expenditure of over Rs. 50,000 crore will have a MULTIPLIER EFFECT on our economic GROWTH and boost EMPLOYMENT opportunities,” Modi wrote.

The Cabinet has approved eight major national high-speed road corridor projects. Spanning 936 km and costing a total of Rs 50,655 crore, these projects aim to improve logistics efficiency and enhance connectivity across the country, according to an official release.
The implementation of these projects is expected to generate approximately 4.42 crore mandays of direct and indirect employment.
The approved projects include:
- 6-Lane Agra-Gwalior National High-Speed Corridor
- 4-Lane Kharagpur-Moregram National High-Speed Corridor
- 6-Lane Tharad-Deesa-Mehsana-Ahmedabad National High-Speed Corridor
- 4-Lane Ayodhya Ring Road
- 4-Lane Section between Pathalgaon and Gumla of Raipur-Ranchi National High-Speed Corridor
- 6-Lane Kanpur Ring Road
- 4-Lane Northern Guwahati Bypass and Widening/Improvement of Existing Guwahati Bypass
- 6-Lane Elevated Nashik Phata-Khed Corridor near Pune
The release said that the government has adopted a corridor-based highway infrastructure development approach with focus on ensuring consistent standards, user convenience and logistics efficiency, as compared to the earlier project-based development approach, focused on addressing stretches of local congestion.
“This corridor approach has led to the identification of a network of 50,000 km of High-Speed Highway Corridors through a scientific transport study based on GSTN and toll data to support India’s transformation into a USD 30+ trillion economy by 2047,” it said.
