Pharma Company’s Fake Drugs Seized

On Wednesday, a joint team of the Chief Minister’s Flying Squad, the Drugs Department, and a local crime branch unit raided Mohammadia Pharmacy in Sector 39, Gurugram. They seized a large number of counterfeit and unaccounted for pharmaceuticals. The pharmacy’s owner, Yusuf, was arrested on the spot.

During the inspection, 50 cartons of Cipla’s Tofajak pill, an arthritic treatment, were discovered in the business. No one in the shop could provide a genuine bill for the drug. The company’s Director of Corporate Affairs was summoned to the scene for an examination. The drug was discovered to be fake.

During interrogation, Yusuf said the medicine was supplied to him by one Naseem. When a raid was conducted at Naseem’s house, 964 boxes of the fake medicine were seized. The total value of the medicines was estimated at Rs 12 lakh.

Yusuf’s partner Zuber was also taken into custody. During interrogation, he told that the the supplier gave these medicines at Rs 500 per box, which were given to the pharmacy for Rs 690 per box and the operator sold these to patients for Rs 900 per box. However, the actual sale price of the medicine is Rs 1,200 per box. Rs 2.67 lakh and three mobile phones were also recovered. Legal proceedings various sections of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, have been initiated against them. Yusuf and Naseem were taken on police remand while Zuber was sent to custody in the Bhondsi jail.

Officials said it would be ascertained where these fake medicines were manufactured. Samples of the medicines were collected and sent to a laboratory for testing. The Drugs Department has also sealed the medical store. Process to cancel their licenses will also be initiated.
