Paris 2024 Kicks Off with Thrilling Football and Rugby Action

The countdown to the Paris 2024 Olympics is almost over, and excitement is at its peak.

Even though the official Opening Ceremony is on July 26, you don’t have to wait that long for the action. Football and rugby sevens are kicking off early on July 24.

The moment the first whistle blows, Paris 2024 will come alive, with top football players hitting the field.

On the first day, July 24, the host nation, France, will play their first Olympic football match against the United States. The stadiums are sure to be full of cheering fans. Also, Spain, who won silver at Tokyo 2020 and are the new European champions, will face Uzbekistan in their Olympic debut.

For women’s football, the reigning champions from Canada will start their tournament on July 25, playing against New Zealand. Another exciting match will see Sweden, who won silver in Tokyo, take on Australia, who are eager to succeed after missing out on a medal three years ago.

Rugby sevens will also begin on July 24 with the men’s games, while the women’s rugby sevens will start on July 28. A total of 288 top rugby players will compete for the Olympic title. Fiji currently holds the men’s title, and New Zealand holds the women’s.

The men’s rugby sevens will be full of action from the start. The three medal-winning teams from Tokyo 2020 will play on the first day. Fiji, the current champions, will be looking for their third straight Olympic gold. However, they will face strong competition. Hosts France, led by star player Antoine Dupont, have just won the 2024 World Rugby Sevens Series Grand Final and are determined to end Fiji’s winning streak.

New Zealand, who won silver in Tokyo, will play against Japan on July 24. Samoa will have a tough start to their Olympic debut, facing Argentina, who won silver in Tokyo.
