OP Jindal Global University Addresses Food Safety Concerns Amidst Controversial Video

The private university, OP Jindal Global University (JGU), has written to students and their parents to reassure them that it treats food preparation with “extreme seriousness” in response to the widespread distribution of a video showing a worker stamping on what appears to be a jar of potatoes in the mess of JGU.

“We have taken cognizance of a matter relating to food preparation by a food service company with extreme seriousness,” the registrar’s note from August 28 stated. We have taken steps to assure that the food material won’t be consumed by JGU residents. We have immediately served a show-cause notice on the company’s CEO, requesting a formal justification and assurances regarding this situation. All individuals implicated in such atrocious practises involving food and dining services will face the maximum penalty possible.

“Thereafter, we have visited the kitchen and dining areas to ensure that all corrective measures are immediately taken up,” the note continued. In addition to lengthy conversations with the top management of the food service company, we spoke with all stakeholders, including students.

The institution declared that it has incorporated the student council’s ideas and would cooperate with the food and mess committee to ensure that food services adhere to the highest standards of hygienic and safety.

According to a fourth-year student, students frequently get unwell. Every time we visit the university, we notice a sizable number of students who are suffering from throat and stomach ailments. One of them is me. I never got sick before. During the majority of my internships, I worked 9am–9pm jobs and consumed street food without ever getting sick. We anticipate that by making student health a priority, the university will benefit. When students here are paying such high tuition, we shouldn’t have to ask for anything.

The country director of the food service provider would visit the campus, the university informed the parents in an email provided by the company.
