The NCERT curriculum will now include a chapter on the National War Memorial called “A Homage to our Brave Soldiers” for students in class 7. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Defence are working together on this effort.
According to a Press statement from the ministry, the initiative’s goal is to instill in schoolchildren the qualities of patriotism, fidelity to duty, courage, and sacrifice as well as to boost youth involvement in nation-building.
The National War Memorial (NWM) (history, significance, and concept) will be highlighted in this chapter. According to the press release, it will also discuss the “ultimate sacrifice made by the bravehearts of the Armed Forces in the service of the nation post-Independence.”
This chapter is presented as an interaction between two friends who write letters to one another to express their thanks for the freedom they have as a result of the bravehearts’ sacrifices. “Deep emotional impact and connection, which arises in children’s minds and hearts as they visit the iconic monument, have been brought out creatively by the authors of NCERT,” the ministry said.
On February 25, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi established the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The purpose, according to the press release, was to “instill in the populace a sense of sacrifice and national spirit and pay a befitting tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives defending the nation.”
