NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) team is testing Exobiology Extant Life Surveyor (EELS), a snake-like robot that would explore the subterranean oceans of Saturn’s moon Enceladus. The robot is intended to map, traverse, and explore otherwise inaccessible areas on Earth, the Moon, and other worlds autonomously. Its most recent 4-meter-long iteration, dubbed EELS 1.0, weighs roughly 100 kilogrammes.
