On Sunday (June 9, 2024), Narendra Modi will take the oath of office as India’s Prime Minister for the third time in a row at 6:30 pm in New Delhi. Modi was appointed Prime Minister when the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) supporters, notably Nitish Kumar of the JD(U) and Chandrabahu Naidu of the Telugu Desham Party (TDP), extended their support.
Several South Asian leaders have been invited to Modi’s swearing-in event. Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe are among the major figures who have confirmed their attendance at the swearing in ceremony. Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth have all been invited to the high-profile occasion.
Elections for the 18th Lok Sabha were held in seven phases ending on June 1.
Vote counting took place on June 4. The NDA got the majority, selecting Modi as its alliance leader and the prime minister. The INDIA bloc fell short of touching the magic number of 272 seats in Lok Sabha, hence failing to form the government.
Modi is set to become only the second PM after Jawahar Lal Nehru to take the oath as a PM of India for the third time.
