Muslim World League Chief’s Sermon Makes Historic Impact at Jama Masjid in India

The Friday sermon delivered by Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), at the Jama Masjid in Delhi has left an indelible mark in the history of the iconic mosque. This special occasion marked the first sermon by a religious figure from outside India in 400 years.

Constructed during the Mughal Empire, the Jama Masjid, also known as Masjid-e-Jahan Numa, holds great cultural and religious significance. With a capacity to accommodate 85,000 worshippers, the mosque was filled to its brim as Sheikh Al-Issa delivered the sermon upon the invitation of the mosque’s imam.

The historic event garnered attention as it symbolized the unity and diversity of modern India. Emperor Shah Jahan oversaw the completion of the Jama Masjid in 1656, and since then, it has been an integral part of Delhi’s cultural landscape.

During the Friday sermon, Sheikh Al-Issa emphasized interfaith harmony, dialogue, and cooperation. His visit to India aimed to promote friendly discussions and strengthen relations between different faiths. The MWL delegation, led by Sheikh Al-Issa, engaged in meetings with Indian government officials, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as religious leaders from various communities.

India, with a population of 1.4 billion people, holds the largest Muslim-minority population globally, representing diverse religious beliefs. The visit by Sheikh Al-Issa to Jama Masjid serves as a significant step in fostering interfaith harmony and promoting peace.

The sermon’s impact was widely felt among religious leaders and attendees, who praised Sheikh Al-Issa’s message of religious harmony, peace, and coexistence. The visit is expected to strengthen cultural relations between India and Saudi Arabia, with both countries playing important roles in promoting global interfaith dialogue.

The Jama Masjid, with its rich history and architectural splendor, continues to be a symbol of unity and religious tolerance. Sheikh Al-Issa’s sermon at this iconic mosque serves as a testament to the shared values of peace, diversity, and universal brotherhood.
