Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, married Radhika Merchant in a grand ceremony in Mumbai on July 12. This wedding was the finale of a long engagement and four months of pre-wedding festivities. These included a luxury cruise across the Mediterranean and a three-day celebration in Jamnagar, where the Ambani family owns a large estate.
The celebrations didn’t end with the wedding. Mukesh and Nita Ambani hosted three receptions in the three days following the wedding. The first reception, called Shubh Ashirwad, was held on July 13 and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The second day was Mangal Utsav, attended by many celebrities and influencers.
The final day of the wedding festivities was reserved for Reliance employees, media, and the Ambani family’s household staff. This celebration was the most important to Mukesh Ambani. In a video that went viral online, Mukesh Ambani is seen addressing the large crowd at Jio World Centre on July 15. The crowd included Reliance employees, household staff, and their families. Mukesh Ambani began his speech with “Jai Shree Krishna,” which was met with loud cheers. He said, “Aap sab ka bahut bahut swagat. Ye Anant aur Radhika ka last celebration hai, par mere liye ye most important celebration hai” (A big welcome to all of you. This is Anant and Radhika’s last celebration. But for me, this is the most important celebration).
The video shows Nita and Mukesh Ambani, along with other family members, personally greeting each guest at the reception. The staff, who usually organize such events, were treated as guests of honor and were thanked by the Ambani and Merchant families.
On the third day of the post-wedding festivities, guests enjoyed a concert by AR Rahman, along with performances from Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Udit Narayan, Sukhvinder, Mohit Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Neeti Mohan, and Jonita Gandhi.
Timeline of Celebrations
Radhika Merchant is the younger daughter of healthtech entrepreneurs Viren and Shaila Merchant. Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s roka (engagement) took place in 2022 at the Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara. This was followed by a formal engagement in 2023, with a lavish celebration at the Ambani family’s home, Antilia, in Mumbai.
In February 2024, the pre-wedding festivities began with a Lagan Lakhvanu ceremony. In March, the Ambani family hosted a three-day extravaganza at their Jamnagar estate, attended by national and international VIPs, including Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, along with Bollywood stars, athletes, business leaders, and diplomats.
After Jamnagar, the family hosted a luxury cruise in late May for hundreds of guests, including Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, and Ananya Panday. The cruise had stops across the Mediterranean.
In the week leading up to the wedding on July 12, the family hosted a sangeet, a mameru ceremony, a haldi, a mehendi, a mass wedding for the underprivileged, and a garba night.
