MP Swati Maliwal Alleges Assault at CM’s Residence

Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has alleged that she was assaulted by PA to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the CM’s residence. She has approached the Delhi Police for investigation, they added.

“One PCR call at 9:34 AM has been recieved at PS Civil Lines from a lady saying she (Swati Maliwal) has been assaulted at CM House. After some time, MP Madam came to PS Civil Lines, however, she left stating she will give complaint late,” the police said.

Meanwhile, Maliwal also made PCR (police control room) calls after the alleged verbal spat, PTI reported citing officials. The two calls were made at 10 am, they said.

A team from the Civil Lines police station reached the chief minister’s residence after that, as per the report. Neither the CM’s residence or AAP has made an immediate reaction, it added.

Maliwal is the former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), a women’s rights body in the national capital. She was in the news earlier this month for criticising Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena over the termination of DCW’s contractual employees, as per a PTI report.

The AAP leader noted that only eight of the 90 staff at the commission were permanent employees and questioned how it will function if most of its staff are dismissed.

The LG office however hit back at Maliwal, alleging she was resorting to “mudslinging” to “cover up her own wrongdoing”.

Notably, Maliwal was missing from the AAP’s list of 40 star campaigners that was submitted by the party to the Election Commission in April, as per a PTI report.

However, on April 26, she campaigned with Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel for Kuldeep Kumar, the party’s Lok Sabha candidate from East Delhi, as per a PTI report. The campaign consisted of a door-to-door padayatra in the Vivek Vihar area of the Shahdara assembly constituency, it added.

“My family lives in the USA and I was there due to an emergency. Now, I am back and shall be campaigning for AAP. I shall be interacting with women and girls in general and shall appeal to them to come out and exercise their right to vote,” Maliwal had told reporters.
