Minister of Education and Skill Development, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, and Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Lawrence Wong, will be attending the highly anticipated finale of the G20 Singapore-India Hackathon 2023, held at the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar. The event, organized by the Union Ministry of Education’s All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU), will take place on July 16, 2023.
The SI Hackathon, now in its third edition, aims to foster collaboration between Indian and Singaporean students and startups to develop innovative solutions for pressing global challenges, specifically climate change and financial inclusion. This unique initiative was born out of a request by Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Lawrence Wong, to bring together the brightest minds from both countries.
The finale will witness the participation of over 800 students, startups, investors, policymakers, corporates, and academics. Twelve teams, consisting of two Indian and two Singaporean students each, will compete for substantial cash prizes of up to INR 12 lakhs. The hackathon will focus on various themes, including Financial Fraud Detection, Financial Inclusion and Credit Offering, Sea-level Rise and Coastal Flooding, Optimizing Food Recycling, Monitoring Carbon Footprint, and boosting Singapore-India Trade Connectivity.
The collaboration between academic institutions like NTU Singapore and IIT Gandhinagar, along with the involvement of corporates and the public sector from both nations, underscores the commitment to nurture aspiring entrepreneurs and address the world’s most critical challenges. By encouraging the development of startups that tackle climate change and financial inclusion, the Singapore-India Hackathon 2023 aims to make a tangible impact on these pressing global issues.
