The Union Ministry of Home Affairs authorized the disbursement of 338 crore to Gujarat and 633 crore to Himachal Pradesh as financial support for natural catastrophes on Tuesday.
According to a post on X by the Union Home Minister’s Office, Gujarat was badly damaged by Cyclone Biparjoy, and under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s supervision, the Centre and the state took early preparations before it, attaining a zero-casualty rate during the natural catastrophe.
Following the exceptionally severe storm, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) dispatched the Inter-Ministerial Central Team to survey the damage without waiting for a memorandum from the state government.
“The MHA has approved the financial assistance of ₹338.24 crore to Gujarat today,” the Home Minister’s Office said.
The Centre had earlier released the first instalment of its share, amounting to ₹584 crore, to the State Disaster Response Force.
According to another tweet from the Home Minister’s Office, the ministry has granted an extra financial assistance of Rs.633.73 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund for Himachal Pradesh.
During this year’s southwest monsoon, the hill state was severely damaged by floods, cloudbursts, and landslides.
Following Prime Minister Modi’s practice of offering immediate help to those impacted, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team was formed to examine the damage without waiting for the state government’s response.
On August 21, a sum of Rs 200 crore was given in advance from the National Disaster Response Fund to assist the state administration in administering emergency relief activities.
The Centre has previously released both installments of its part to the State Disaster Response Force, totaling 360.80 crore, according to the Home Ministry said.
