Meta has launched a safety campaign called ‘Scam se Bacho’ in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) to educate people on how to avoid online scams and promote safer digital practices.
In line with the government’s goal of combating the country’s rising cases of scams and cyber fraud, Meta unveiled its two-month-long campaign on Thursday at a launch event in the capital. The campaign includes an integrated national consumer awareness campaign around online safety and security in nine Indian languages, informative talk shows on Doordarshan, and training sessions designed to improve the capabilities of law enforcement officers nationwide.
In an instructional film starring Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, Meta has launched the nationwide campaign by highlighting the most prevalent scams people encounter on a daily basis and urging people to be vigilant and cautious in order to avoid falling for them.
The movie also emphasizes a number of safety measures on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook that enable people to take charge of their online security.
The campaign serves as a crucial reminder of how Meta’s built-in product features and security tools, such as WhatsApp’s group privacy settings, two-factor authentication, and Block and Report, give users the protection they need to guard against online fraud, scams, and account-compromising threats.
Additionally, Meta is running a content series in partnership with Instagram creators to raise awareness on how people can spot scams and protect themselves with Meta’s safety tools.
