The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) constructs a number of waste-to-art related art works, sculptures, and murals in public locations ahead of the G20 Summit in the Capital during the second week of September.
According to a senior municipal corporation official, these systems are being put in place in strategic areas like those close to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Pragati Maidan, and important avenue routes.
Five musicians playing Indian classical instruments are depicted in 15-foot-high waste sculptures being built into the Mahipalpur roundabout. Visitors and delegates will be confronted with these enormous installations created mainly of leftover metallic scrap as soon as they leave the IGI airport.
The Indraprastha Marg and Bahadurshah Zafar Marg in downtown Delhi, respectively, have also been lined with two-dimensional panels depicting Indian classical and folk dances, according to officials.
“We have already created three waste-to-art theme parks, where more than 700 tonnes of scrap metal were utilised to create numerous reproductions of important landmarks and historical figures. There are plans to open three more parks. According to the official, no other city has adopted this idea on this scale. The installations will also include statements like “Welcome to Delhi: World’s Largest Waste-To-Art City” and “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
The official stated, “The roundabout will soon be landscaped in its entirety as we are nearing completion of the installation work.
Instruments like the tabla, sitar, and harmonium will be used to accompany the enormous human models during the display.
Similar to this, the municipal organization’s horticulture division has erected a “winged unicorn” building at Bhairon Marg near Pragati Maidan, the primary location of the G20 Summit, which will take place from September 8 to 10.
A second municipal official said, “The edifice representing a jumping unicorn seeks to depict India as a developing “unicorn” destination. The word “unicorn” refers to businesses with a worth greater than $1 billion.
