Mass Migration to Bluesky: Why Users Are Leaving Elon Musk’s X

Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter has seen millions flock over to another micro-blogging platform called the Bluesky.

Does the name ring any bells? That’s because the platform is a brainchild of the former Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey.

The recent US Presidential elections have sparked interest in Elon Musk’s association with President Trump, leading to concerns about his handling of X and the moderation of free-speech content on the platform. Bluesky, a similar platform to X, is vying for attention as an alternative, with over a million users added in the last few days. This detailed piece provides an in-depth understanding of Bluesky and its purpose.

What is Bluesky And How it Works

It’s a text-based social networking site that lets you publish brief messages of up to 300 characters, photographs, and videos, as well as exchange direct messages, or “DMs.”

Bluesky operates on a decentralized basis, comparable to the social network Mastodon. It lets users to create their own social media experiences and join a specific “server” with its own set of rules, hobbies, and members.

In many ways, Bluesky is/was similar to X/Twitter but one cannot disregard the value of being set up in a decentralised framework. This means that user data can be stored on independent servers rather than those owned by the firm, and that in the future, users will be allowed to create their own servers to use with communities of their choice, the report says.

The most noticeable difference is that the material and users take a more refreshing approach than in X. And, sure, you will only see postings from users you know or follow on the network. X now has a For You and Following page that does not operate properly, which is one of the users’ concerns about Musk’s platform these days.

X’s content policy appears to be deteriorating, with accounts promoting and reinstating banned accounts for hate speech. This is a serious issue, especially now that Elon Musk is part of the government, which could lead to biased policies and muting of accounts against the regime. This is a common issue on platforms like Twitter and X.
