Three remains, thought to be among six individuals reported missing from Jiribam district, were discovered near the junction of the Jiri and Barak rivers on the Manipur-Assam border, officials said Saturday.
Officials informed PTI that the bodies of a lady and two children were discovered Friday night around 16 kilometers from Borobekra in Jiribam district, where the group was last seen on Monday.
While the bodies have yet to be properly identified, investigators believe they may belong to the missing persons. The bodies were taken to the Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) in Assam and kept in the morgue for postmortem procedures.
Earlier, six members of a family, including three women and three children, one of whom is a newborn, went missing from Borobekra in Jiribam as a result of regional conflict. All six are from the Meitei group and had been sleeping in a relief camp set up near the Borobekra police station during the riots in June.
According to an official, the identification procedure is underway, and images have been obtained for confirmation. Autopsies are being performed in Assam due to poor facilities in Jiribam.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh summoned a meeting with key ministers on Friday night to discuss the situation following the finding.
