According to data presented in Parliament by the Union government on Tuesday, 66% of universities and 78% of colleges in Gujarat are currently operating without National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation.
All universities and colleges must be NAAC-accredited, according to a regulation from the University Grants Commission (UGC).
According to the UGC, 66% of Gujarat’s universities and 78% of its colleges are operating without NAAC accreditation, Parthivrajsinh Kathavadia, a GPCC spokesman, told reporters in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.
In addition, according to data provided by the government, 1,767 colleges are operating in Gujarat without NAAC accreditation, while 55 of the 83 universities there lack NAAC recognition. According to Kathavadia, the NAAC rates educational institutions as A, B, C, or D based on the evaluation’s findings. “The quality of education, infrastructure, syllabi, research and innovation, and other parameters are evaluated by NAAC on a 1,000-point scale while granting accreditation,” he added.
The NAAC evaluation cycle has expired for a number of Gujarati colleges and universities, he continued, but they have made no moves to reapply for accreditation.
“All universities and colleges in Gujarat must be ordered to obtain NAAC accreditation if the Gujarati government is sincerely interested in raising the standard of higher education. All institutions and colleges must obtain NAAC accreditation as soon as possible, according to the Congress, he continued.
