The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), London, UK, has conferred the coveted title of ‘Chartered Chemist (CChem)’ to P. Prakash, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Thiagarajar College in Madurai.
The CChem title is a professional designation given to experienced chemical scientists who have exhibited extensive knowledge, considerable personal achievements, professionalism, and a dedication to professional growth.
According to a news statement released by the institution on Friday, college secretary Hari K. Thiagarajan congratulated Mr. Prakash on his accomplishment. A team of at least three competent chartered chemists extensively reviewed the CChem application.
Once the award was formally accepted, the awardees were given the honor of adding the initials ‘CChem’ to their names. The college administration presented him with a citation and a cash award.
Last year, Mr. Prakash received his Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree from Madurai Kamaraj University. In 2021, 2022, and 2023, he was named to Stanford University’s coveted ‘World ranking of top 2% scientists’ list.
Mr. Prakash is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and the Indian Chemical Society (FICS), both in London. The statement also said that 14 students have received Ph.D. degrees under his guidance.
