The 12th meeting of the Indo-German joint working group to promote vocational education and training (VET) took place on December 7, 2022. The purpose was to provide a uniform system for VET to achieve skill needs in priority sectors that adhered to German norms.

A skill mapping exercise will be done to identify skill gaps, and bridging courses and upskilling programs will be developed to teach Indian workers. Dr. K K Dwivedi, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, and Mr. Alexander Hochradel, Senior Policy Officer of Division 222: ERASMUS; International Cooperation in Vocational Training, Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), co-chaired the meeting.

The two partner nations addressed developing a framework for connecting employers and understanding how trained certified personnel may contribute to economic development.

Mutual accreditation of training providers in both nations will be carried out through G2G, G2B, and B2B partnerships with appropriate institutions that adhere to international training, evaluation, and certification standards.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) considered aggregating demand needs and employer mandates to NSDCI, which included job descriptions, eligibility criteria, foreign language training, and curriculum information.

Dr. KK Dwivedi, Joint Secretary of India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, advocated virtual or physical exchange programs in the academic and vocational domains that focus on apprenticeship training, allowing students to earn while working on job projects in both nations.

Alexander Hochradel, Senior Policy Officer of Division 222: ERASMUS; International Cooperation in Vocational Training, Federal Ministry of Education and Research, emphasized the importance of VET in today’s dynamic post-pandemic ecosystem, as well as the recognition of professional qualifications to foster synergies between the two countries.
