The Special Commissioner of Delhi Police has recommended in a letter to the Delhi Chief Secretary that a government holiday be declared from September 8 to September 10 in advance of the impending G20 conference.
On September 9 and 10, the G20 summit—a gathering of the heads of the 20 largest economies in the world—will take place at Delhi’s Pragati Maidan’s state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam convention hall, which was just inaugurated. India will be hosting the conference.
The advice is being given in an effort to ease any potential traffic congestion and logistical difficulties.
For the summit, which will see the arrival of several heads of state and diplomats, including US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron, the Delhi Police is hard at work making special arrangements to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
In order to examine the restriction and diversion measures, the Delhi traffic police on Monday performed a simulated drill on important routes connecting Pragati Maidan, the summit’s main location, with a number of hotels.
As part of the practise, numerous traffic police units were stationed at various intersections, and barricades were erected at intersections and diversion locations.
It is expected that the G20 summit will bring together heads of state, economists, and officials from a range of industries to talk about cooperation, policy coordination, and global economic concerns.
The coordination between law enforcement agencies and the local administration will be essential to the event’s success as the entire globe focuses its attention to Delhi for this momentous occasion.
The police are focused on their soft skills while also preparing their staff to handle chemical and biological threats.
At its training facility in Madhya Pradesh, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) conducted a four-week specialized training for 19 “markswomen” of the Delhi Police, female commandos of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) section. In addition to this, the Delhi Police has acquired specialized firearms, ammo, bulletproof clothing, and X-ray equipment.
