The postmortem report of the 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor from Kolkata’s R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, who was brutally raped and murdered, has revealed shocking facts about the attack.

According to India Today, the autopsy report revealed over 14 injuries to the victim’s body, including her head, face, neck, arms, and genitals, confirming the brutality of the attack.

The report states that the cause of death was manual strangulation due to smothering.
The victim’s body bore clear signs of sexual assault, with the autopsy revealing evidence of forceful penetration.

A white, thick, viscid liquid was found inside the victim’s genitalia, further corroborating the assault, the report said.

Among the injuries recorded were severe trauma to the nose, right jaw, left arm, and shoulder, suggesting a violent struggle before the victim was overpowered. The autopsy also noted haemorrhaging in the lungs and the presence of blood clots, indicative of the extreme physical trauma.

‘Doctor’s clothes were dishevelled’

Witnesses who saw the body said she was lying on a podium in the seminar hall. “A blue bed sheet covered the body from the neck to the knees. Her kurta was dishevelled and the trousers missing. Her laptop, a note book, cellphone and a water bottle were next to the body,” a source said.

The victim, despite being half-asleep, had desperately fought back, and this struggle provided investigators with crucial evidence, according to a senior officer. “She attempted to resist and inflicted deep injury marks and scratches on the accused’s hands. During a medical examination, these scratch injuries on Roy’s body were found to match the skin and blood samples collected from the victim’s fingernails,” the officer told TOI.

The postmortem report has said that the cause of death was smothering and throttling. It noted abrasion and bruising on the victim’s face, extending from the eyes to the neck. The report mentions that the accused “got certain advantage as the victim was in deep sleep at the time of the attack.”
