Kohli Overtakes Rohit as Captain in Cricket Australia’s World Cup Dream Team

As the 2023 Cricket World Cup hurtled towards its climax, Cricket Australia unveiled its dream team, sprinkled with stars but raising a few eyebrows. In a twist that left many fans scratching their heads, Virat Kohli found himself at the helm, overshadowing India’s skipper Rohit Sharma.

The star-studded lineup features four Indians, a testament to their stellar performances throughout the tournament. Yet, the absence of Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain who led from the front with an impressive 503 runs, came as a shock. Cricket Australia’s nod went to David Warner and the prolific Quinton de Kock, sidelining Sharma, who boasts a higher run tally.

Adding to the intrigue, Virat Kohli, not donning the captain’s hat for India in ODIs since the 2021 T20 World Cup, was an unexpected choice to lead Cricket Australia’s dream team. His exceptional form with the bat, including two centuries, earned him the captaincy nod, despite his recent non-captaincy status in the Indian ODI setup.

In the bowling department, India’s spin sensation Ravindra Jadeja secured the No. 8 spot, showcasing his economy prowess with a remarkable 3.96 rate. Jasprit Bumrah, with an economy of 3.65, also found a place in Cricket Australia’s ideal XI, highlighting the strength of India’s bowling arsenal.

Mohammed Shami, another linchpin in India’s bowling attack, secured a well-deserved spot, underlining his crucial role in the team’s success.

However, the absence of KL Rahul, who not only displayed impeccable glovework but also contributed significantly with the bat, raised eyebrows. Rahul’s noteworthy batting at No. 5, accumulating 347 runs, including a century and an unbeaten 97, seemed insufficient for Cricket Australia’s discerning eyes.
