R Sreelekha, the first female IPS officer from Kerala, joined the BJP on Wednesday. Sreelekha, a writer as well, served as the director general of the Kerala Fire and Rescue Service until her retirement in 2020. She was the state’s first female IPS officer to hold the position of DGP.
Sreelekha told the media that she joined the BJP because of Prime Minister Modi’s charisma. “I believe in the ideas of the BJP. After considering it for three weeks, I’m joining the BJP. The BJP reached me three weeks ago with an invitation to join the party. I had served as an unbiased officer. However, based on my experience, I realize that this is the ideal method for me to help the people after retirement,” she remarked.
State BJP president K Surendran praised Sreelekha as a “brave officer,” noting that the former IPS officer was acquainted with Kerala and had implemented a number of police reforms.
“She had battled in the police department for the rights of women. In Kerala, the BJP is no longer untouchable,” he informed the media.
When Sreelekha joined the BJP Kerala is discussing ADGP MR. Ajith Kumar’s previous interactions with high-ranking RSS officials. Following the retirement of former DGP Jacob Thomas, she is the second former IPS officer to join the party.
