The Kannada short film Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know, directed by Chidananda S Naik, has been nominated for the Oscars 2025 in the Live Action Short Film category. The film was made by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), where Chidananda studied.
Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know, a short film, earned first place in the Cannes Film Festival’s La Cinef Selection this year. The Kannada project, which lasts 16 minutes, draws inspiration from Indian traditional legends and rituals.
The film’s crew comprises Suraj Thakur as cinematographer, Manoj V as editor, and Abhishek Kadam as sound designer.
