Kangana Ranaut Slams Rahul Gandhi over ‘desh ka halwa’ Remark, Says “Makes…”

Actor-turned politician, Kangana Ranaut, on Friday slammed Rahul Gandhi over his ‘desh ka halwa’ remark, and said the Congress leader makes no sense in what he says.

Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament, Kangana said, “What should I say about Rahul Gandhi? He makes no sense, at least I don’t get what he says. The most condemnable thing about him is the words he used for the country.”

“Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother (former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi) has also prepared various budgets, and I condemn his ‘halwa’ remark for the country,” she said.

“It’s not good for the country, and as Union Minister Anurag Thakur has said, the Congress’s mentality is to break the nation in pieces to benefit themselves… has been going on since the time of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru,” Ranaut said.

The Dispute Over Rahul Gandhi’s Remark

On July 29, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, displayed a photo of the halwa ceremony that preceded the printing of the Union Budget, saying there was no Dalit, adivasi or backward-class person in the photo.

Gandhi said 20 officers worked on preparing the country’s budget and of them, only one was from the minority community and one from the Other Backward Category (OBC).

Later, Union Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman responded to Gandhi’s remark on the decades-old ‘Halwa Ceremony’ and said that she was ‘pained’ by the statement.

Replying to the Budget debate in Lok Sabha, Sitharaman said, “It pains me. If only we knew the background in which Halwa ceremonies are celebrated.”

“In this country, there is a tradition of serving something sweet before starting any good work. When did it become a photo event? In 2013-14, why didn’t he (Rahul Gandhi) ask the then finance minister about how many Scheduled Castes (SC)s and Scheduled Tribes (ST)s were there in the ministry?”

Using the ‘chakravyuh‘ metaphor as a leitmotif, Rahul Gandhi also claimed that an atmosphere of fear prevails all around with a group of six trapping the entire country in a ‘chakravyuh‘ he promised would be broken by the INDIA bloc.

Participating in the debate in the Lok Sabha on Budget 2024-25, Gandhi said the INDI Alliance will ensure that a legal guarantee for MSP as well as a caste census is passed by the House.
