Jaypee Institute Unveils Ramanujan Universe Supercomputer

At the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (JIIT), a supercomputer called Ramanujan Universe was unveiled to support engineering students in their pursuit of cutting edge research in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI). On National Mathematics Day, Rajive Kumar, member secretary of AICTE, officially opened the supercomputing facility.

This recently constructed High Performance Supercomputing Centre (HPC) facility features six compute nodes, eight A 100 GPU card accelerated nodes, over 3500 GB of RAM, and 100 GB of InfiniBand connectivity. With the assistance of technical know-how from Dell, the supercomputer has been constructed. This high computing facility has been developed at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

Speaking to Education Times outside of the launch event, vice-chancellor of JIIT, Noida, BR Mehta states, “Introduction of the supercomputer will enable undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students to solve complex mathematical problems, algorithms and more. Several students involved in AI and ML research can use the supercomputer. In addition to the regular curriculum, we would encourage the students to use the supercomputer for research in healthcare, data analysis, data Science and cyber security.”

Supercomputers have long been needed, and their introduction will allow AI programmers to create a wide range of software applications for various industries. “This supercomputer can process complex tasks and simulations at extremely high speeds in a matter of fractions of a second.”

By using the capacity of high-speed computation and data processing, this facility will be essential to the advancement of scientific research, technological innovation, and the resolution of challenging real-world issues in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence, and many more in the era of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

“All Engineering students will benefit from the supercomputing facility as computing is a major component of their curricula,” states Rajive Kumar, member secretary of AICTE.

Students in the mechanical stream can also use this to build Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) technologies, in addition to computer engineering students. This supercomputer is available to students to aid them with their online projects and internships.

This nation’s engineering education will undergo a radical change because to this powerful supercomputer facility. After IIT Delhi in North India, this college is the second to introduce a high-powered supercomputing facility.
