Jaipur Gas Tanker Fire Claims 11 Lives, Many Injured Critically

The death toll in the LPG tanker-truck accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway reached 11 on Friday, with the state government saying nearly half of the injured people were “very critical”. The crash resulted in a huge fire that engulfed 37 vehicles and nearby buildings.

“A total of 11 people have died. Five were brought dead to SMS hospital. Five succumbed during treatment. One death was reported from Jaipuria hospital,” Dr Deepak Maheshwari, Principal, SMS Medical College, said.

Jaipur police commissioner Biju George Joseph informed the media that the fire started after the LPG tanker’s outlet nozzle was broken in the accident, resulting in a gas leak.

The collision occurred around 5:30 a.m. in front of a school. The fire quickly spread, engulfing vehicles behind the truck as well as approaching traffic.

“Vehicles behind the truck were in fire. Other vehicles coming from the opposite direction caught fire as well, and they collided,” Joseph explained.

Dr Maheshwawri stated that 43 persons were brought to the hospital, seven of whom required ventilator support.

According to PTI, Rajasthan’s health minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar stated that almost half of the injured were in “very critical” condition.
