Israeli Airstrike in Beirut Claims Life of Nasrallah’s Key Successor: Reports

An Israeli attack allegedly targeted Hezbollah leader Hashem Safieddine in Beirut on Friday morning. According to Axios journalist Barak Ravid, an Israeli official stated that Safieddine, who looks to be a potential successor to dead Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, was struck.

Israel and Hezbollah have not yet released an official statement confirming the strike. Reuters also stated that they were unable to comment on the news disseminated on the social media site X. Safieddine is a major member of Hezbollah’s team of leaders.

Israeli forces announced an attack on Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Beirut, targeting the suburb of Dahieh, a prominent Hezbollah stronghold, on October 3. The strike signaled a sharp increase in ongoing conflict. Israel launched 11 air strikes south of Beirut, escalating the fighting. Lebanon’s state news agency reported that the strike’s impact was felt in the mountains near the capital.

Safieddine, who heads Hezbollah’s executive council, is a key figure in the group’s military operations and was designated a terrorist by the United States in 2017.
