Sayyed Razi Mousavi, a key IRGC figure in Syria responsible for coordinating the military alliance between Iran and Syria, lost his life during the attack on Monday.
The incident unfolded in the Zeinabiyah district, situated in the suburbs of Damascus, as reported by Iran’s official IRNA news agency. The news outlet used an alternate name, Sayyida Zeinab, referring to the region south of the Syrian capital. Mousavi’s role in fostering the military collaboration between Iran and Syria underscores the strategic significance of his position within the IRGC.
Iran’s state television interrupted its regular programming to announce Mousavi’s demise, highlighting his extensive experience as one of the most seasoned IRGC advisers in Syria. The report also mentioned that Mousavi had been in the company of Qassem Soleimani, the former head of the IRGC’s elite Quds Force, who met his end in a U.S. drone attack in Iraq in 2020.
