In the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament in Thirunelveli on Friday, daring keeper-batter Ishan Kishan struck a thrilling 86-ball century against Madhya Pradesh.
Leading Jharkhand from the front, the skipper was at his best on Day 2, hitting the opposition bowlers to all sides of the park as his side finished the day on 277 for 7, batting second.
Coming in at number six, Ishan started carefully on his red-ball return, producing a controlled half-century off 61 balls. However, after raising his fifty, Ishan went insane and raised his ton almost immediately. With the help of 10 sixes and 5 fours, Ishan smashed 114 off 107 balls and his brutal knock came at a strike rate of 106.54.
In his first red-ball match since making his Test debut for India during the West Indies tour in July 2023, Ishan looked outstanding, skillfully balancing aggression and caution.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh were bundled out for 225 with Shubham S Kushwah (84) top-scoring for the side.
With the two-Test series against Bangladesh set to commence from September 19 at home, Ishan knock comes as a good headache for the selectors. The squad for the series is yet to be announced.
Ishan will next feature in Duleep Trophy which will be played from September 5-24. The tournament is likely to see other Indian regulars.
