In a remarkable show of skill and perseverance, India made its mark at the Asian Games 2023. The men’s trap shooting team, comprising Prithviraj Tondaiman, Kynan Chenai, and Zoravar Singh Sandhu, clinched a gold medal. Their combined score of 361 outpaced the silver medallists from Kuwait – Khaled Almudhaf, Talal Alrashidi, and Abdulrahman Alfaihan, who scored 359. Host nation China, represented by Yuhao Guo, Ying Qi, and Yuhao Wang, settled for bronze with a score of 354.
Despite Talal Alrashidi’s commendable effort of 24 points in the final round, he couldn’t surpass the formidable Indian score. This win underscores India’s dominance and hard work in the sport.
On the women’s front, Manisha Keer, Preeti Rajak, and Rajeshwari Kumari did the country proud by securing a silver medal in the women’s trap team event. Their combined score of 337 was only overshadowed by China’s Qingnian Li, Cuicui Wu, and Xinqiu Zhang who set a world and games record with a score of 357. The bronze was clinched by Kazakhstan’s Mariya Dmitriyenko, Aizhan Dosmagambetova, and Anastassiya Prilepina with a score of 336.
Manisha Keer’s individual performance also drew attention. Despite a rocky start, she showed grit by making it to the finals. She was in a four-way tie at 114 but advanced further after a crucial shoot-off. Adding to India’s shooting glory, Kynan Chenai and Zoravar Singh Sandhu have also qualified for the individual men’s final, showcasing the depth of talent in the Indian contingent.
Outside the shooting range, India had another reason to cheer. Aditi Ashok, the golfer who has been creating ripples with her performance, settled for silver in women’s golf. She had entered the final day with a significant seven-stroke lead. However, the day was a challenging one, with Aditi carding four bogeys and a double bogey against a lone birdie. This saw her seven-stroke advantage diminish, pushing her to second position.
These updates from the Asian Games 2023 not only highlight the triumphs but also underscore the unwavering spirit of the Indian athletes, even in the face of setbacks. Their journey and performance are a testament to their dedication and the bright future of sports in India.
