Indian hockey team’s dream for a gold medal ends with defeat against Germany in the semifinal. India fought hard till the last second, but clinical Germany managed to register a 3-2 win on Day 11 of the Paris Olympics.
India started with aggression and dominated Germany in first quarter of the game but in second quarter Germany bounced back and geared up the score to 1-2. In the 3rd quarter Harmanpreet pulled India back in game with his goal from penalty corner and tied the score 2-2.
In the fourth quarter both the teams played very well, India defended tightly but Germany regained a lead with a great move followed by a top-class goal by Marco Miltkau, the score stood to 2-3. India didn’t lose hope and fought till the last second to score a goal but unfortunately they were unsuccessful.
Harmanpreet Singh and team have played some incredible games in the ongoing campaign and beaten the likes of Australia and Great Britain on their way to the semis. India has a rich history in the Olympics, but they haven’t won a gold medal in over 40 years. India won last of their eight Olympic gold medals way back in the 1980 Moscow Games, however, they had an opportunity to end their drought in Paris but unluckily they missed the chance of gold this time too.
