On 10 March 2025, the opposition walked out of the Parliament, over a row over the delimitation issue - as the Budget’s second session began this morning. Union Health Minister, JP Nadda, speaking in the Rajya Sabha, condemned the opposition walkout, declaring they needed a “refresher course” on rules and regulations governing the Parliament and maintaining decorum.

The incident has sparked a broader debate about Parliamentary conduct and the legitimacy and implementation of the delimitation process with many Southern states, led by Tamil Nadu strongly disapproving of the move.

According to them, it could lead to unfair political advantages for the northern states, while the southern states which have controlled their population and contributed most to the growth would have less voices and even lesser representation in the Parliament. While BJP maintains that delimitation is essential for ensuring equitable representation based on the current population consensus
