India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI of the 3 match series took place in Colombo on Friday. Sri Lanka gave the target of 231 runs losing 8 wickets. India while chasing the target got all out at 230 and the match was tied.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. Sri Lanka scored 230 off 8 wickets. Dunith Wellalage scored an unbeaten 67 off 65, while Prathum Nissanka scored 56 of 75 balls. Other batters could not score more than 25 runs.
Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Shivam Dube, and other seamers contributed one wicket each, while left-arm orthodox spinner Axar Patel (2/33 in 10 overs) and wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav (1/33 in 10 overs) were economical. 118 runs were scored in the last 20 overs.
In the second innings Rohit Sharma chasing the target scored 58 off 47 balls, while Axar Patel (33) and KL Rahul (31) scored some valuable runs. Apart from them, all other players were seen struggling ahead of Sri Lankan bowlers.
Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka took three wickets each giving just 58 and 30 runs respectively in their spells. Dunith Wellalage took two wickets, while Asitha Fernando and Akila Dananjaya clinched one wicket each.
India needed 1 run in the last ball with just 1 wicket left, Arshdeep Singh was on the strike. Aslanka took the last wicket and turned the match towards a tie.
“The score was gettable, you had to bat well to get there. We batted well in patches. No consistent momentum. We had the upper hand, we lost a couple of wickets. With the KL-Axar partnership, we came back. Little disappointing at the end. These things happened. Sri Lanka played well. In the end, it was a fair result. It (pitch) remained the same. It’s not where you can come and play your shots. You have to dig in. The game shifted towards both teams at different times. We should have got that one run,” Rohit Sharma said after the match.
