India won their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024, thumping Ireland by eight wickets. Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to field, as the Indian bowlers united to bowl out Ireland for a meagre total of 96.
The best bowler was Hardik Pandya (3 for 27), who claimed three wickets, followed by Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, who each claimed two wickets. Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj each claimed a wicket in the interim.
India was in control of the chase thanks to Rohit’s 52 off 37, and they eventually made it home in 12.2 overs. After getting hurt during batting, Rohit was forced to retire.
