Team India showcased determination and skill in their World Cup opener, surmounting early setbacks to clinch a win against Australia. Although they managed to curtail Australia to a score of 199, India’s initial response was far from ideal, at 2/3 in 2 overs.
However, Lokesh Rahul and Virat Kohli stepped into the breach, weaving a vital 165-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Lokesh Rahul’s innings, an unbeaten 97 from 115 balls, combined with Virat Kohli’s 85 off 116 deliveries, steered India toward victory.
Australia’s bowling saw some noteworthy performances, with Josh Hazlewood emerging as the standout, securing figures of 3/38 in his 9-over spell. Mitchell Starc, although economical, managed only 1/31 from his 8 overs. A moment of lament for Australia would be the missed opportunity, failing to catch Virat Kohli when he was at a mere 12 runs. The Aussie spinners, perhaps hampered by the evening dew, couldn’t unsettle the Indian batsmen, who played them with relative ease.
