Axar Patel Backs Suryakumar Yadav as “Bowler’s Captain”
India all-rounder Axar Patel supports Suryakumar Yadav’s new role as the captain of India’s T20I team. Yadav, known as SKY, was chosen as captain after Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is following India’s win in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Axar praised Yadav, saying he is a “bowler’s captain” who listens to bowlers and sets fields as they request. Axar shared his positive experiences with Yadav and expects his captaincy style to remain consistent.
He also noted that SKY has a relaxed and fun personality, keeping the team’s mood light. Axar thinks Yadav’s leadership will keep the atmosphere positive.
Axar will be part of both the T20I and ODI teams for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which is the first series under new head coach Gautam Gambhir. He will compete with Washington Sundar for the all-rounder spot. Axar plans to discuss his role with Gambhir to get a clearer idea of his responsibilities.
India’s tour of Sri Lanka will include 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs, starting on Saturday, July 27.
