India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the three match T20 series opener game played at New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Gwalior on Sunday (06 October). India dominated Bangladesh showing its all-round performance with the bat and ball leading to a great victory. They bowled out Bangladesh for 127 and then chased down the target of 128 within 11.5 overs.

After winning the toss, India opted to field against Bangladesh. Batting first, Bangladesh batters struggled and lost five wickets in just 10 overs and were 64/5, but they managed to score a total of 127 in 20 overs. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto made 27 off 25 balls and Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed 35 in 32 deliveries.

Varun Chakravarthy and Arshdeep Singh took three wickets each, while Mayank Yadav, Washington Sundar and Hardik Pandya picked up one wicket each. Mayank Yadav delivered a maiden over while bowling the sixth over during his T20I debut for India and became the third Indian bowler to bowl a maiden over in a Twenty20 International.

Chasing 128 runs, India’s batting attack dominated and won the match in just 11.5 overs, scoring 132/3. Sanju Samson (29), Suryakumar Yadav (29), Abhishek Sharma (16), Nitish Kumar Reddy* (16), and Hardik Pandya* (39) made significant contributions in getting the early win.

Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh was awarded as the ‘Player of the Match’ for picking up 3 wickets at an economy of 3.65 and giving away just 14 runs.

The second T20I match between India and Bangladesh will be played at Arun Jaitley International Stadium in Delhi on 9 October from 7 PM onwards.
