On December 29, 2023, IIT Roorkee and IIT Bhilai signed an MoU to improve academic and research collaboration between the two universities. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at IIT Bhilai by the directors of both universities, Professor KK Pant of IIT Roorkee and Prof Rajiv Prakash of IIT Bhilai.
This strategic partnership aims to preserve and promote Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) while also contributing to socioeconomic development in tribal areas through research on traditional medicinal plants, tribal culture studies, tribal agricultural practices, and financial literacy among tribal populations.
This partnership is a huge step forward in raising young knowledge of Indian culture and heritage, in line with the Government of India’s ambitious aim of Viksit Bharat@2047.
Moreover, the partnership will actively support the objectives outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems into the education system.
India’s future goals in terms of education, health, the environment, and other areas are clearly outlined in IKS, along with the “Knowledge of India” from ancient India and its contributions to modern India and its accomplishments and problems. This engagement is also in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Ek Bharath Shreshtha Bharat.
“IIT Roorkee is delighted to collaborate with IIT Bhilai, and this MoU reflects our commitment to fostering innovative solutions for today’s educational system.” We want to bridge the gap between ancient and contemporary education by facilitating fundamental and translational research and contributing to our common goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ – a developed India,” said Professor KK Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee.
“This partnership will create new opportunities for research and development,” stated Professor Rajiv Prakash, Director of IIT Bhilai. It will also help to spread our historic knowledge and traditions.”
Both institutions commit to exchanging knowledge and promoting Indian culture, Indian knowledge systems, as well as developing projects on sustainable and rural development; Ancient Indian science, Fintech, Health Science, Agriculture, Artificial Intelligence, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Life Management, Environment, Renewable Energy, Food Processing, Tourism Management, Languages, Peace and Conciliation, Music, Humanities, and other areas of mutual interest.
Additionally, they have decided to work together to plan conferences, workshops, seminars, symposiums, and short-term training courses.
Both Professor KK Pant and Professor Rajiv Prakash expressed their delight at the addition of this new chapter in the partnership of IIT Roorkee and IIT Bhilai, and expressed their full support for the two institutions’ long-term and mutually beneficial collaboration.
