IIT Madras, Sony India launch free training program 

In order to provide engineering college students with industry-ready technical education, Sony India Software Centre Pvt Ltd and IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation today announced their alliance.

According to IIT-M, training would be provided in areas such as AI/ML, product security, and computer graphics. The program is free, and students will receive stipends depending on predetermined criteria. The IIT-M Pravartak and Sony India will choose around 30 candidates for the Finishing School Training Program.

The training program’s second batch will begin in the third week of January 2024. The application deadline is January 10, 2024. For further information, candidates can check the official website — sonyfs.pravartak.org.in.

The IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation is a Section 8 company that houses a Technology Innovation Hub for Sensors, Networking, Actuators, and Control Systems. It is financed by the Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology as part of its National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems and hosted by IIT Madras.

Balamurali Shankar, General Manager, Digital Skills Academy – IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, said, “This program was offered in 2023 in similar technologies. Most of the students got placed in top IT/ITES organisations and start-ups. We plan to extend this program in 2024 aiming to benefit deserving learners nationwide. This initiative aims to propel them forward in their chosen career paths by addressing the gap between the knowledge and skills of graduate students and the industry’s demands.”.

Criteria for Eligibility

  • Applicants must hold an Engineering degree in ECE, CSE, or EEE with a minimum of 60% aggregate.
  • The training is for students who graduated in 2021-2022 and 2022-23. Eligible students will also receive a stipend.
  • Criteria for selection will include academic performance, parental income, and the student’s performance in an aptitude/analytical test followed by an interview.
  • Entrance exams will be held at various locations in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

Following the completion of the program, Sony India will induct a select top performers. IITM Pravartak will help the remaining students find jobs in other firms by scheduling interviews through the IITM.

The remaining students will be assisted with placement in other firms by arranging for interviews through the IITM Pravartak placement cell. Based on their achievements, these firms may give these students full-time positions.
