The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and IIT Palakkad have collaborated to improve educational possibilities for students through shared resources, research internships, and immersive summer courses.
The relationship aims to harness both schools’ strengths, widening the learning experience for students enrolled in IIT Madras’ Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees and IIT Palakkad’s undergraduate programmes.
IIT Madras has launched its 4-year BS in Data Science and Applications programme, which offers quality training through online content delivery and in-person assessments. Over 30,000 students are currently participating in the programme. Recently, an MoU was signed between IIT Madras and IIT Palakkad, with faculty from both institutions. The collaboration aims to provide quality education to every deserving student in India.
Key features of the MoU include credit transfer from IIT Palakkad courses, allowing IIT Madras BS (Data Science and Applications) students to fulfill their credit requirements by taking courses at IIT Palakkad, promoting an exchange of academic resources and expertise.
The MoU also allows undergraduate students at IIT Palakkad to enroll in courses on Data Science and Programming from the IIT Madras BS programme, ensuring equitable access to cutting-edge skills.
The collaboration will also facilitate student exchange programs, internship opportunities, and other joint initiatives. It emphasizes the commitment of both institutions to enrich student experiences through cross-disciplinary exposure, practical learning, and research opportunities.
IIT Madras has been collaborating with other premier institutions to provide in-person learning opportunities for final-year students in the BS programme, with IIT Gandhinagar, IIIT Hyderabad, and Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) already making their campus courses available to eligible students from the IIT Madras BS (Data Science) degree programme.
