The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the Ignou PhD registration deadline till November 25, allowing eager scholars more time to register.
IGNOU PhD Eligibility
Candidates must have a valid UGC NET score, either through a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or from the 2024 UGC NET cycle.
This is in line with the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) 2022 regulations for PhD admissions. The application fee for all candidates is Rs 1,000.
Ignou has reserved 5 per cent of the total seats for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) who have a disability of at least 40 per cent. However, these candidates will not be included in the total seat count under categories such as General, SC, ST, OBC, or EWS.

IGNOU’s PHD Admissions Process and Weightage
According to IGNOU norms, JRF-qualified candidates will be admitted based on 100% weighted interviews. The interview procedure will evaluate applicants based on three components:
Research methodology (40%).
Subject domain expertise (40%).
Communication Skills (20%)

- Start new registration: Click on the ‘New Registration’ option under the applicant login.
- Create an account: Enter your name and set a password to create an account.
- Check for username details: Your username will be sent to you via email and SMS once your account is created.
- Log in and fill out the form: Use the provided username to log in and complete the application form.
- Submit documents and payment: Upload the required documents and pay the application fee.
- Save your confirmation: Download and keep the confirmation page for future reference.
A combined merit list will be generated for candidates having JRF credentials and genuine UGC NET scores, guaranteeing compliance with the Government of India’s reservation policy.
